This year marks 125 years of winemaking excellence on the site where the iconic Church Road winery stands in the Hawkes Bay. To celebrate the milestone, Church Road in collaboration with multisensory explorer Dr. Jo Burzynska, presented a series of events, The Feast of Five. Held at top restaurants in Auckland, Wellington and Queenstown, the series offered Church Road fans the chance to rediscover wine in five ways, using their five senses across a five-course degustation menu.
The discovery series created by the New Zealand winery showcased the best of Church Road’s award-winning portfolio wines, including the Church Road 1 Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 and Church Road 1 Redstone Syrah 2020, and demonstrated how, by stimulating your senses in different ways, you can draw out more from one delicious glass of wine than you ever expected.
Church Road Chief Winemaker, Chris Scott says of the milestone, “The Feast of Five was an excellent way to kick off celebrations and toast the uncompromising spirit of all those who have worked on this site over the last 125 Years, as well at the phenomenal wines they have created.”
The 125 Year celebrations will continue with a gala event on 9th September, to coincide with the birthday of original New Zealand wine pioneer, Tom McDonald, and the release of this year’s Church Road Prestige Collection – of which Scott says, “Simply put, these are our best wines. No effort is spared.”
