Auckland’s newest bar makes for an idyllic setting for guests to mix and mingle, eat and drink some of the best locally sourced food and beverages. Inspired by the true beauty of New Zealand, Our Land Is Alive encapsulates the abundance of Aotearoa’s landscape and brings people together in a fun, casual and lively atmosphere.
Located at the entrance of the Cordis hotel, “Our Land Is Alive” boasts a Kiwi-inspired food and beverage menu using quality New Zealand ingredients. Franz Mascarenhas, Managing Director of Cordis Auckland says, “Think of Our Land Is Alive as your friendly neighbourhood pub with an exclusively Kiwi offering, not seen elsewhere in the bar scene. Our Land Is Alive is set to become the new local!”
FOOD & DRINK
Our Land is Alive is all about quality drinks and food, showcasing the best of New Zealand made spirits, award winning wines, Kiwi curated cocktails, local craft beers and non-alcoholic drinks! Explore a range of Kiwi made spirits, taking inspiration from the land and creating infusions and blends with unique New Zealand tastes. Each spirit is imbued with the distinct flavors of regions and ingredients from across Aotearoa.
You can expect twists on classic cocktails from seasoned mixologists behind the bar. Kiwi curated signature cocktails include a smoked apple wood ‘White Cloud’ made with Thomson Two-Tone whiskey, and a refreshing ‘Karangahape Side’ made from Lighthouse gin, lime juice and cucumber, topped with fresh mint.
The drinks menu features an impressive selection of Aotearoa wines. Aromatic white wines on offer include Lawson’s Dry Hills Estate and Cable Bay Awatere Valley from the South Island. Fruity and full-bodied red wines include Martinborough’s Luna Estate and Central Otago’s Carrick Unravelled. There is an option for white wine on tap which keeps waste at a minimum.
Cordis Auckland’s Executive Chef Volker Marecek has designed a menu drawing inspiration from New Zealand’s culinary landscape, featuring locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, creating a tantalising array of classic bar food with a twist.
Be tempted by a charcuterie and cheese board, or sample the menu with dishes like free range lamb ribs from Wairarapa and Cloudy Bay clams with apple and curry sauce served on fresh ciabatta. Simplicity and Kiwi hospitality are at the heart of everything at Our Land Is Alive.
DESIGN INSPIRATION
Our Land is Alive’s interior design provides an opportunity to reflect New Zealand’s beauty with locally designed furniture and fittings. This includes a hand-painted sky mural on the ceiling representing the Land of the Long White Cloud. Painted by local mural artist Ross Lewis, the mural extends the feeling of the outdoor space. The bar top has been crafted from Kauri by Tréology Designs; a bespoke design using rescued trees from the rivers and fiords of New Zealand. Beautiful interiors provide a point of difference, from the Timaru Bluestone bar front to a stylish open fireplace. A retaining wall lovingly crafted from Basalt rock is the focus of the al fresco courtyard, set amid a palette inspired by New Zealand’s natural colours.
In the outdoor courtyard, guests will be surrounded by flourishing native plants and greenery capturing the lush New Zealand landscape. Artwork that forms the menu cover has been hand painted by local illustrator Erin Forsyth and draws inspiration from native flora and fauna. The artwork features a range of unique native plants and animals, including Aotearoa's red admiral butterfly, the majestic NZ Kauri, Kawakawa and the Auckland green gecko, just to name a few.
Our Land Is Alive is a great spot to while away a day with excellent food that has been selected to complement the local curation of New Zealand drinks. Come in and explore this local hidden gem for yourself.
