Keith and Eric are two tried and true Kiwis. The brothers (and best mates) grew up on a farm next to the Kaituna River and loved getting out and about and going on adventures, whether it was white water rafting, kayaking, hunting, or just exploring the bush. At the end of every adventure, the duo always managed to find a hot stream in the bush or on a beach, a secret spot that only a few locals knew about, where they would retell the day’s stories and share a drink and a laugh.

It was through this that they decided to create Secret Spot – a place they could share with fellow adventurers and visitors. Set up just 10 minutes from Central Rotorua, Secret Spot is easy to find, and walking through you know you’ve entered a truly special place, a little slice of paradise.

After a quick chin wag with the friendly staff, we made our way over the swing bridges and arrived at our personal cedar hot tub, equipped with a flax kete (basket) containing water to keep us hydrated. We had pre-ordered a few Good George craft beers and ciders and were stoked to have them waiting for us at the tub – how’s that for service! Now it was time for pure relaxation, listening to bird song and taking in the forest that surrounded us.

Secret Spot has only been in the ‘biz’ since early October 2019 and has quickly garnered a reputation for its genuine Kiwi hospitality. Keith and Eric have worked hard to create an oasis that is built on authenticity and integrity. The tub water is fresh, forest spring water, is sustainably heated and flows to each tub for total relaxation. There’s none of that chlorine or sulfur business here, so your skin and swimwear leave unscathed.

Each tub is booked for a 45-minute slot and can take up to 6 people. The best part is, when you run out of drinks, just push the drinks button and you’ll be serviced immediately by one of the friendly staff.

By day guests can enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings and waterfalls, by night, Secret Spot becomes magical with tasteful lighting and burning flames. On Saturdays’ they have a live band and are often running BBQ’s for hungry guests. For those that are running low on time, or just want a quick relaxation, they can dip your feet into the “Shinny Dip “foot hot tubs, which are free with any drink purchase.

Keith and Eric have absolutely nailed their dream, they’ve created a blissful paradise, a perfect place for a spot of romance, or to catch up with friends and family over a drink and a soak.
