The TSS Earnslaw is New Zealand’s most iconic steam boat, fully functional and ready to take you on a journey over Lake Wakatipu and its idyllic, South Island Beauty.

Launched in the same year as the Titanic (over 100 years ago!, the TSS Earnslaw served as an important ferry for all kinds of things including carrying passengers, sheep, cattle and mail. She has since been maintained and repaired to a near identical original version of the ship. When in Queenstown we would highly recommend booking for the Walter Peak Gourmet BBQ Dining, which includes a return cruise from downtown Queenstown and back.

After your entrancing cruise, you will arrive at Walter Peak High Country Farm with welcoming arms (and aromas!). Views of Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown’s beautiful mountain ranges will leave you in awe as you dine in on your delectable lunch or dinner.

A variety of crisp salads, delicious meats and exquisite carb choices will tango across your taste buds in a flavourful manner. Desert and vegetarian options are always available as well. The mix of rural beauty coupled with an amazing BBQ meal makes this a quintessential experience for all!

After you’ve finally recovered from your food coma, don’t forget to watch the farm demonstration to gain an understanding of how life is on Walter Peak Country Farm. See cute farm dogs in action as they herd sheep back into their pens and cows to their pastures. If farm life is not really your thing, give the gardens a look to satisfy your botanical aesthetic needs. If all of that still doesn’t tickle your fancy, feel free to explore the lake area at your leisure, soaking up South Island’s mesmerising ambiance. After you have finished, the TSS Earnslaw will take you back to the CBD so you may reminisce on such a wonderful experience.

Not many people can say that they’ve ridden on a coal powered steam ship in our modern era, so, what are you waiting for?
